Lava technologies made its entry in the Indian mobile phone market about 14 months ago, and now after loads of research, has come forward with a new concept, the alpha keyboard incorporated phone, the Lava B5 Mobile. Accompanied with good specifications and affordable price tag, the handset is surely going to make a huge in the range of budget phones.


With a weight of about 109g, the Lava B5 phone is in the form of a bar and has the dimensions 107.8X63X12.75 mm. the phone supports dual-SIM connectivity with operating frequency GSM 900 / 1800 Mhz | GSM 900 / 1800 Mhz, internal memory of about 64 MB and external memory up to 8 GB. The handset is accompanied by a 2.2 inches QVGA, TFT screen supporting 262K Colors and a resolution of 320 X 240 pixels. Provided with facets as FM Radio with Recording, MP3, MIDI, AMR player with Audio Recording, the handset has a 2 MP camera with a resolution support of 1600 x 1200 Pixels enabling digital zoom.

The Lava B5 handset also facilitates video recording and enables video playback in formats as MP4, AVI, 3GP. The phone allows messaging in the form of SMS, MMS and email, and provides a phonebook which is capable of storing around 1000 Entries with Contacts Backup. Provided with a 1400 mAH Li-ion battery, the handset is available only in the color Black, and supports built-in services like Nimbuzz, MSN, Yahoo messenger, Skype etc. The music features provided with it are the Music Equalizer, Dual Speaker with 3.5mm Head Jack. The special feature of this phone seems to be the web camera.
The main attraction though of the Lava B5 handset is the alpha keypad provided along with it. This keypad is different form the former QWERTY keypad in a way that the keys are arranged in the alphabetical order like A, B, C, and so on till Z. This does seem rather awkward and not-so-convenient for the general users who are well versed with the QWERTY keypad, but the company claims that this shall prove to be a beneficiary for those not well-equipped with the QWERTY keypad, and will result in faster messaging and updating on social networking sites.
The company Lava is also looking to expand and make an impactful presence in the international mobile industry and has also planned to launch its handsets in West Asia next month. The Lava B5 Mobile is a good mix of innovation and technology and seems to be a good buy with a price tag of Rs.4399/- in the Indian market.
