Donto P1, the Argentine rival KTM X-Bow
Argentina is a country that typically emphasize especially the manufacture of automobiles. Quite the opposite, and that that among the illustrious names like Juan Manuel Fangio, who for many has been the best F1 driver of all time, or Horacio Pagani, founder of the Italian brand that bears his own name . This seems it could change if the Donto P1 succeeds in becoming a reality: set itself the goal of overcoming the KTM X-Bow and an Ariel Atom is, first, a declaration of intentions.
The Donto P1 is the first draft Donto Motor Company, and has been built through the efforts of the pilot and entrepreneur Campanera Laureano. Specially designed for the foreign market (although their marketing has not been ruled Argentina), the Donto was inspired by the X-Bow and the Atom, and like them, their natural habitat should be the circuits. However, it is working to be approved in different countries, thus ensuring that it can also be used on the road.
According to Lucas Lopez, designer of P1, the car has been made starting from a blank sheet:
It is always easy to pull ideas unconsciously drawing a Ferrari, a Porsche or a Lamborghini and then raise a number of changes to do so differently. And that is what we wanted to keep away. Putting aside personal preferences and design with the mind as white as the leaf is not at all easy, however, is extremely difficult. The goal was clear from the start, making a spectacular car and offender services.
The chassis has already been approved by the FIA, and is the work of Hector 'Tito' Perez, an engineer "chasista" Argentine has 400 cars in its particular curriculum: from cars, to cars or rally cars. The P1 has an exoskeletal body, like that of an invertebrate. A design very much in line with the KTM X-Bow, but unlike the latter, the Donto has a removable hardtop. Although production materials have not yet been specified, the weight should not exceed 700 kilos, making P1 a very entertaining toy.
Another thing not yet determined is the mechanical. For now, the first prototypes have been equipped with 1.8T engines of origin Volkswagen / Audi, offering power around 180 horsepower. Its main rival, curiously, also equipped with an engine developed by the German giant, but in the case of X-Bow, this is the same 2.0 TFSI that also mounts the Volkswagen Golf GTI
The project began in secret for 18 months, with a test program included tests on closed circuits. Now, after having completed the first successful test phase, Campanera team is working on a prototype completed to show the world.
With a price should not exceed $ 55,000 P1 Donto sounds like a valid alternative to sport as the KTM X-Bow, or Ariel Atom. With a very light weight and a 200-horsepower turbo engine, benefits should be more than warranted. Now we can only wait and see if this project really curdles, which, seen the work done so far should not surprise anyone.
